Dr. Cendales is an Assistant Professor of Surgery at Emory University in Atlanta, Georgia, and Director of the Emory Transplant Center Composite Tissue Allotransplantation (CTA) Program. Dr. Cendales is the only surgeon in the US to have completed formal fellowship training in both Hand and Transplant Surgery. She helped organize the first CTA team in the US and participated in the country's first two hand transplants. She was subsequently the first surgeon accepted into the Transplant Surgery and Immunobiology Fellowship at the National Institutes of Health (NIH). During her time at the NIH, Dr. Cendales established and published a model of CTA in nonhuman primates. She organized the first international symposium on CTA histopathology at the International Banff Congress leading to the published classification system now used for clinical reporting of rejection. Dr. Cendales has co-authored over 40 scientific manuscripts, abstracts, and invited publications and has made over 60 presentations at national and international meetings. She serves as the Chair for the American Society of Transplant Surgeons' CTA Committee.
