Bio: Joseph M. Rosen, M.D.: Dr. Rosen is Professor of Surgery (Plastic and Reconstructive) at Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon, New Hampshire. He also teaches two courses at the Thayer School of Engineering, Dartmouth College - Healthcare and Biotechnology in the 21st Century and Virtual Medicine and Cybercare. Dr. Rosen is a member of the Melanoma Tumor Board and Affiliate Member of the Norris Cotton Cancer Center at Hartmouth-Hitchcock Hospital. He received his B.A. from Cornell University and an MD from Stanford University School of Medicine.
Dr. Rosen's major research interests are: Nerve Repair and Human Machine Interfaces, Microsurgery and Transplantation of Limbs, Computer-Aided Surgery, Virtual Reality Simulators and methods of Education, Telemedicine and informatics, Healthcare Delivery for Medical Disasters and Counter Measures for Bio-Terrorism. He is a former Director, Section, Emerging Technologies Assessment at the Institute of Security Technology Studies at Dartmouth College, Hanover, New Hampshire. He is a committee member on the Bio-terrorism Working Group at the IEEE - USA Medical Technology Policy Committee and a consultant at the Institute of Defense Analysis in Washington, DC. Dr. Rosen is a member of the Plastic Surgery Research Council, American Society of Plastic Surgeons and the Plastic Surgery Educational Foundation, and is a member of the Strategic Committee of the Association of Plastic Surgery. Since 1981, Dr. Rosen has done volunteer surgery in developing countries for Interplast, Inc.and other groups.
