This program will be offered at the University of Glasgow, Scotland, which will appeal to students wishing to pursue a traditional English literature curriculum in a culturally vibrant setting. The University of Glasgow is renowned for the high calibre of its teaching, the prominence of its research centers (for example, in Romanticism, Scottish Studies, and Film & Television Studies) and its development of cutting-edge computing and information technologies. The University is located in the heart of the city of Glasgow, one of the most thriving cities of Europe, named European City of the Year in 1990. Known for its vibrant youth culture, its numerous cinemas, bookstores and pubs, Glasgow is also a city of parks and tree-lined streets, many of which surround the University. Students will have the opportunity to participate in a pre-registration orientation program that will introduce them to the city of Glasgow and the surrounding countryside.
Students live either in University of Glasgow residence halls or other student housing in Glasgow.
To participate in the program for a given year, students must have completed all first-year requirements and one English course (other than 2, 3, 5 or 7) with a grade of B or better. (The English course requirement may, in certain circumstances, be waived by the director.)
Professor George Edmondson will be the director of the 08F Glasgow program.
