The interdisciplinary moment when the individual knows s/he is going to die, the humility therein: in literature, in philosophy, on stage, in the classroom, in public speech and discourse. In search of these moments I write and teach, give lots of keynote addresses, act in small parts of great plays, and raise children and sheep. I try always to encourage students into authentic speech. I like humor and song. I dislike dead metaphors, thoughtlessness, and cheap grace.
