PEDAGOGY COURSES

Education 41: Principles of Teaching and Learning in the Elementary School: Theory and Practice (Junior Spring, or Senior Spring if enrolled in the Fifth Fall Track)

The following three pedagogy courses comprise the student teaching term, either Senior Fall or the Fall after Graduation if enrolled in the Fifth Fall track. Students come to campus four weeks early to attend the initial faculty meetings at their school and to be able to teach from the first day of school. Students finish their student teaching at the end of the Dartmouth term, having completed 15 weeks of teaching. No other courses are taken at the college in this term, though students often participate in other activities and groups on campus.

Education 43: Student Teaching Practicum Education
Education 44: Special Projects on Student Diversity in the Schools

OTHER REQUIREMENTS FOR ELEMENTARY CERTIFICATION CANDIDATES

  • Students will complete a Certification Portfolio.
  • Students must pass the national Praxis I and II exams (standardized tests of general knowledge and skills, and of content-area knowledge) for teachers before receiving State certification.
