My teaching experiences in elementary, secondary, and higher education have led me to believe that students of all ages learn about academic content and about themselves when actively engaging with subject matter through discussion, reflection, negotiation of meaning, and authentic application. As a result, in all of my college courses I encourage students to delve deeply into both historical and contemporary perspectives, to critically examine those perspectives in the service of an informed personal stance, and to develop an appreciation for the nature and utility of "good ideas" in educational and psychological disciplines.
