Dartmouth Rugby's Passion and Excellence
For over fifty years, Dartmouth Rugby has maintained the spirit, passion and on-field excellence on which the clubs
were founded. With the loyal support of over 2,000 active alums, the
completion of the unparalleled Corey Ford Rugby Clubhouse, and continued
national on-field prominence, the DWRC has enhanced its standing as one of the preeminent collegiate rugby programs. Building on that tradition, our
objective now is to position the club for continued excellence for the
years to come. Unfortunately, with the current economic climate and
shrinking endowments, funding the clubs for success is a much bigger
challenge than in previous years. This is why we launched the Dartmouth
Rugby Enduring Capital Campaign. We need your help to remain successful.
What is the Dartmouth Rugby Enduring Campaign?
The purpose of the Dartmouth Rugby Enduring Capital Campaign is to create
a permanent funding base for coaching, medical services, touring,
recruiting, and program development, in order to position the club firmly
and solidly for the future. As you know, DWRC has been at the forefront
of collegiate rugby for the past 30 years. With the loyal support of
alums, the unparalleled Corey Ford clubhouse is now the best collegiate
rugby facility in the country. The woman's program has benefited from the
consistency of twenty years under the same coach, as Deb Archambault '85
continues to provide her inspiration and incredible depth of knowledge to
class after class of athletes. The DWRC is credited with two Northeastern Union championships, nine appearances in the national round of sixteen tournament, three elite eight finishes, and nine Ivy League titles.
Why do we need to raise money?
Every year, the clubs face increasing increasing competition on the field and
increasing costs off of it. Once and always a student-run organization,
the students are confronting mounting financial burdens as they try to
manage their budget. Currently, students pay as much as $1,200/year out
of pocket to play this club sport and more when they make it to
Nationals (as they have this year). Through the capital campaign,
Dartmouth Rugby is looking to provide an ongoing source of funds so that
the club has the budget it needs each year to be competitive without
depending on the players to provide all the revenue. One of best
qualities of rugby is that it is an egalitarian sport; and to preserve
that quality at Dartmouth, it needs to be open and accessible to every
student -- not just to those who can write a check for $1200 plus travel
expenses every year.
What can you do to help?
You can help in a number of ways. First, please consider what you can
give, and give as much as you can. Pledges can be made over a 5-year
period (though you can pay all at once if you'd prefer). Gifts to the
Dartmouth Rugby Enduring campaign will receive credit for participation
within the College's Campaign for the Dartmouth Experience. Second, if
you are interested in helping us execute on this plan or in donating to
the campaign, please contact our campaign chair, Nicole Carrier '94, at
ncarrier@dwrc-bog.com.
