Letter regarding Ephraim Simonds and Funeral Oration
Letter to Bingham (June 14, 1801)
This letter to James Hervey Bingham is notable in that it includes an inquiry on
Webster's part regarding Simonds' health. The letter is dated June 14, and
Webster indicates that it seems unlikely that Simonds will convalesce. Four
days later, Simonds died.
Funeral Oration on Ephraim Simonds (August, 1801)
This Oration was given at the funeral of Simonds. It can be criticized as being
somehwat ostentatious and overly-florid in its language, however this was fairly
typical of funeral orations of the day.
