Auditions generally last about 10 minutes and are heard by the conductor and relevant musical department staff. An audition generally consists of the following:
One solo piece of your choice, which should provide some indication of how comfortable you are with your instrument.
Decisions regarding membership are made after considering the relationship of the player's ability to the median technical level of the orchestra's players and the player's comportment during the audition.
Auditions will be held in the quartet studio, located in the basement of the Hopkins Center.
For large instrument players: If you play an instrument that is big enough that you decided not to bring it to school: It's your responsibility to make arrangements to secure an instrument for your audition, so when your audition time comes you are ready to play.
