Faculty governance depends upon the active participation of all faculty
members in the committee system. The committee system is the mechanism for
determining and monitoring educational policies and for faculty involvement in
certain aspects of undergraduate life. Please refer to the Organization of the
Faculty of Arts and Sciences Dartmouth College (OFDC) which outlines the
membership and functions of most of the committees and councils on which
faculty members serve. On the Committee Preferences form, there are also links
to brief paragraphs that describe the function and recent activities of most of
the committees and councils. We hope that these summaries as well as the OFDC
will aid you in your choice by acquainting you with the responsibilities
allotted to each committee and council.
The COP looks closely at past and present service when determining
nominations to fill vacancies. We also look at faculty who are not currently
serving in order to distribute the responsibility of committee service more
equitably, but we rely most heavily on preference selections. If you do not
complete the preferences form, we will assume that you are willing to serve on
any of the committees or councils listed.
Should you have technical problems accessing the form, assistance is
available by contacting Webmaster@dartmouth.edu.
We will be most grateful if you would complete the form by
Monday, February 25.
