Winter on Mount Moosilauke

Celebrating a century in the Dartmouth Out of Doors

JANUARY
Jan. 1 2009 – Kick off the Centennial with a New Year’s Day ascent of Moosilauke. This event was a success, despite difficult weather conditions. Students joined DOC President Andrew Palmer and such Chubber legends as Put Blodgett '53 on the Glencliff trail. Weather conditions prevented summitting a cloud covered mountain, but a good time was had by all and the Centennial officially opened. Read the trip report.
FEBRUARY
Feb. 7th - Winter Weekend Fun – Free ski, snowboard, snowshoe, and ice skate lessons for all undergrads.
Feb. 12-15th 2009 – Winter Carnival Winter Carnival is at the core of DOC tradition. This year’s Carnival Theme was "Summiting a Century: 100 years of the DOC". IT was a great success. Pictures and reports up soon.
Feb. 18th 2009 – Centennial meeting for Alumni
Feb. 20-22nd, 2009 – Second Annual Grant Weekend & 50th Anniversary of Miller Quinn Tragedy This event featured dogsledding, guided nature tours, and a special reception Saturday night with stories and presentations from an episode that is simultaneously one of the DOC's proudest moments and its greatest tragedies.
Feb. 28, 2009 – Undergrad Climbing Competition
MARCH
March 7, 2009 – All-schools climbing competition
March 17-30, 2009 – Spring break – Various expeditionary trips by clubs.
Thursday Film Series at Loew Auditorium through spring term. The Hopkins Centre's Loew film series this spring will feature films celebrating the out of doors. From "Touching the Void" to "Into the Wild" this series promises to be a great showcase of outdoor films. See the Description and Schedule.
APRIL
April 10th, 2009 – Dartmouth Organic Farm event Farm Potluck with stone bake oven and lots of great workshops all afternoon. Featured live music and dancing! Great event with beautiful weather and strong participation.
April 11th, 2009 – Mascoma Slalom Race A whitewater slalom race held each spring on the Exelsior Rapid in Lebanon, NH. This year's 'Scoma saw strong participation from club boaters and lots of spectators from the area.
April 18-19th, 2009 – 1st Annual Ledyard Canoe Club Riverfest!!! Combining races on the Wells River and Pond Brook (weather permitting) as well as festivities at the club on Saturday, the canoe club has created a great new tradition for the upper valley boating community.
April 24-25th 2009 – Woodsmen’s Weekend Meet This event was a huge success with over 150 alums joining the fray to compete and spectate. A wonderful banquet was held at the DOC House on Saturday night to celebrate the Outing Club Centennial and the team's history. Special thanks to the Student Organizers and all the alum volunteers. MAY
May 9th, 2009 –DOC Spring Weekend at Ravine Lodge Beginner trips throughout the state during the day, all reconvened at The Moosilauke Ravine Lodge for dinner and dancing with live music. Over 14 trips went out and over 150 students got involved.
May 17-24th, 2009 –Trip to the Sea The annual trip down the Connecticut. 18 Students left Hanover to follow in the footsteps of John Ledyard. The Dartmouth Club of Pioneer Valley hosted a barbeque (organized by Henry Eberhardt '61) in South Hadley, MA on Wednesday, May 20 for paddlers and alumni/ae. The Dartmouth Club of Southeastern Connecticut hosted their annual reception event for the trip in Old Saybrook, CT.
May 20th, 2009 – DOC Annual Celebratory Banquet and Awards
May 22-25, 2009 – 100-Mile Trailwalk 75 Miles of the DOC’s AT plus all 25 miles of trail on Moosilauke combines for a century of stewardship. Join us for a celebration of the DOC’s history of trail-building and maintenance.

JUNE
Commencement and Reunions – Special events The DOC hosted the usual great slate of events, from special programs at the Ravine Lodge to hikes, whitewater rafting, ropes courses and more!
The Big Green Bus program completed it's Fifth tour around the country to educate our citizens about alternatives to fossil fuels.

JULY
July 11th, 2009 - Celebration at Moosilauke – 70th anniversary of the Ravine Lodge To celebrate Dartmouth's spiritual home in the wilderness, a special evening of music, dancing and cameraderie. For pictures, visit the Lodge's page on Facebook.
AUGUST
Hood Museum display of wilderness artwork – through September
SEPTEMBER
An Enduring Passion: The DOC at 100 Library display in Rauner, through October 31st, showcasing the historical eras of the DOC.
DOC First Year Trips and special Orientation Week events
Sept 27 2009 – Alumni Hike in Colorado – Snowdon Peak hike and tailgate to celebrate the Centennial. More information here
OCTOBER “The Finest time to be outside in New England!”
Oct. 3-4 2009 – DOC Fall Weekend at the Ravine Lodge – 50 Mile Hike, club trips, dinner and dancing at Ravine Lodge.
Oct. 10th 2009 – AT in a Day The club sponsored the first-ever single-day AT Hike. The trail was divided up into sections, which were hiked by individual parties along the length of the trail - alumni and students throughout the eastern seaboard. Photos and stories are pouring in - send yours if you haven't already. This event was a huge success and thanks to everyone who participated.

Oct. 23rd 2009 – DOC Homecoming Open House Join DOC students on the Green and in Robinson Hall before Dartmouth Night's Bonfire to reminisce about the club you knew and sign up to hear about that club that is now.
Oct. 30th, 2009 – Dartmouth Organic Farm annual Fall Harvest event
Oct. 31-Nov. 1 2009 – Ravine Lodge closing weekend. Work day, turkey dinner and celebration.
Nov. 1, 2009 – Nordic Team Moosilauke time trial.
DECEMBER
December 12th, 2009 – 100th anniversary of the Dartmouth Outing Club. Alumni banquet at McLane Lodge, Dartmouth Skiway. Join fellow alumni from all eras of the past century of Dartmouth Out of Doors for a special evening of story- telling, singing, camaraderie and remembrance. See photos from the archives, recent club trips and photo essays of the year’s celebrations. Let us come together to celebrate the greatest Outing Club in the world! N.B. This represents a date change. The banquet will be held on Saturday, December 12th, 2009. The first meeting of the DOC occured on Dec. 14th, but to allow greater participation, the banquet will be held on the weekend prior.
