Charge

The User Assessment Group is charged with ongoing assessment of user expectations and experiences, and with integrating user feedback into the ongoing development of the Library web site at Dartmouth.

Areas the group will assess include:

  • how efficient is it to navigate the screens and find information?
  • how efficient is it for new users to do basic tasks the first time they use the Library web site?
  • what is the level of satisfaction with achieving what users want to accomplish in the Library web site?
  • what visual cues help users learn and remember how to use the Library web site?
  • what areas, features, functionalities within the Library web site need improvement and/or development?
  • the effectiveness of the Library web site as a teaching tool.

To meet the charge, the UAG will:

  • Perform a horizon scan and gather sample tools & techniques to use in evaluating the library web environment.
  • Identify expertise on campus to assist with evaluation.
  • Perform regular, ongoing assessment of the Library web site at Dartmouth and its components through a variety of approaches including but not limited to:
    • Gather and assess feedback from the existing formal and informal user feedback pathways, including library reference desks, information desks, and education programs, as well as the formal feedback link offered through the Library web site.
    • Define, compile, and review appropriate usage statistics from the Library site.
    • Organizing user focus groups, direct observation sessions, surveys of needs, and other assessment outreach activities.
  • Identify trends and needs from our primary user communities, present findings and make recommendations to the Digital Library Group for further Library web site development.
  • Assist other working groups of the Library web site with integrating user feedback into their project development.
  • Respond to requests for assessment from the Digital Library Group.
  • Develop a cycle and schedule for assessment to coordinate with the Digital Library Group development cycle to ensure feedback is integrated into product development timelines.
  • Coordinate user testing to prevent constituency exhaustion.
