Entrepreneurship

You don’t have to be born an entrepreneur to acquire entrepreneurial skills. Nor do you have to be actively engaged in starting a company to be entrepreneurial.

Entrepreneurial thinking happens every day in a variety of forms. In a variety of settings from the business world, to civil service, to the non-profit sector, there is an increasing demand for people who are willing to think and act entrepreneurially.

So, what does it mean to be entrepreneurial?

Are there certain characteristics that distinguish entrepreneurial thinkers from others?

Some entrepreneurial characteristics include:

  • Innovative
  • Flexible
  • Dynamic
  • Creative
  • Growth-Oriented
  • Opportunistic
  • Willing to take initiative
  • Focused on value creation and growth

At the Dartmouth Entrepreneurial Network, we believe these entrepreneurial skills and characteristics can be learned, especially outside the classroom, in environments rich in entrepreneurial activity. For this reason, we have set about to create a program in which the real activity of supporting startup entrepreneurial teams create a host of learning opportunities for interested students, and in turn the increased interest in entrepreneurship creates startup opportunities.

The Dartmouth Entrepreneurial Network is interested in talking with people who want to learn more about entrepreneurship or want to turn an entrepreneurial startup idea into reality. We work with Dartmouth community members who express a general interest in learning more about becoming entrepreneurial, and we work with business teams in all aspects of successfully starting companies.
