Dartmouth's concern for the total development of its students is reflected in its broadly balanced programs in athletics. Almost every undergraduate participates in some form of athletic activity, whether through the physical education program or at the intramural, club, recreational, or varsity level.
The administration of athletic programs is organized into six major components: 1) Physical Education, Recreation, Intramural, and Club Activities; 2) Varsity Sports; 3) Sports Information; 4) Operations and Facilities; 5) Business Affairs; and 6) Alumni Relations. The Director of Athletics and Recreation has overall responsibility for the entire athletic and recreation program. Students should feel free to contact her regarding their concerns or suggestions for any area of the total program.
Varsity Sports
Dartmouth provides varsity competition for men and women in more than 30 sports. The College is a member of the Ivy League, the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), and the Eastern College Athletic Conference (ECAC). Eligibility on a varsity team is governed by regulations set forth by the above associations and administered by the Athletic Department. Eligibility questions should be directed to the Associate Director of Athletics for Compliance and Administration (646-1496).
Student Managers
Student managers work under the direction of the head coach. They are responsible for a myriad of duties and responsibilities, from helping with travel arrangements, to videotaping, to daily duties as they relate to practice. Managers play an important part in the success of our teams and therefore are eligible for the same awards (varsity letters, certificates, etc.) that are awarded to competing members of the team. Any student who is interested in managing an athletic team should either contact the coach of that sport or inquire at the Varsity Sports Office in 106 of Alumni Gym.
Athletic Tickets
Dartmouth students are eligible for free admission on a first-come, first-served basis to all regular season varsity contests to which the public is charged admission, by showing a valid Dartmouth ID at the gate. For post-season championship events that happen to be hosted by Dartmouth, including NCAA and ECAC Tournament games, tickets are normally made available at a special student rate. Ticket purchases and requests for related information can be made at the Ticket Office at the Berry Sports Center from 9:00 am to 5:00 pm., Monday through Friday, or by calling 646-2466.
