About Us
What is the largest social event on campus? Dining of course and DDS is an award
winning collegiate food service that meets that social need. The
Dining Services team is always working hard to meet your dining and nutritional
need. Our staff is dedicated to providing the best possible food within the
friendly atmosphere of our diverse dining facilities.
We provide quality food and our staff is open and friendly, lending to a positive experience for our customers. Dining at Dartmouth has always ranked high with our students and the community. Our highest form of praise though comes from our students and the Dartmouth community. Student input is always welcome when it comes to variety, quality and value.
All our units provide a la carte dining, this means you can spend what you want on a meal or snack using your Dartmouth meal plan. Our meal plans are declining balance accounts that can be rolled over each term until the end of each academic year. You must choose a Declining Balance Account each term if you are a registered student or living in a college residence in an off term even if you are carrying over dollars from the previous term. "Going Negative", a term coined by students who use all their DBA money before the term is over, means you continue to dine as always and these purchases will be added to your college bill. For those students who need a large meal plan we offer the Big Green Plan which has the added feature of a 10% discount on purchases.
As part of your DBA plan you may spend up to $200 each term in the Topside Convenience Store, these dollars do not carry over. Topside dollars may be spent in our other dining locations.
Thayer Dining Hall, Collis Center and the Hopkins Center are the main locations for dining on campus. Locations in the library, East Wheelock cluster and the medical school also provide meals and snacks throughout the day. If you want to sit back and relax late at night you might want to visit the Lone Pine Tavern or Collis Late Night. Your Dartmouth food plan also allows you to buy food at athletic events at the DDS concession stands.
The Pavilion, located in Thayer Hall is the model many other colleges are using when developing special venues to serve kosher and halal menu items.
Dining Services operates 12 different venues where students may use their Declining Balance Account meal plans. Service begins at 7:00am daily and goes until 2:30am. Please see our web page descriptions for individual unit hours and menus.
We are always changing our menus to deliver variety and we are planning many special events for the coming year.
Home Plate, as is all of DDS, is very involved in Sustainable Dining, working closely with the college sustainability club to make dining services a cutting edge environmentally friendly work place. Home Plate restaurant is an almost waste free location, one of the first college retail locations in the U.S. to accomplish this feat.
Do you have special dietary needs? Please see Beth Rosenberger, R.D. at Home Plate or Claudette Peck, the college nutritionist at Dick's House for counseling and dining information.
Our entire management staff welcomes your input so seek them out or use the comment card bulletin boards to provide us your ideas... Please feel free to contact us at 603-646-2271 or email us at: DDS.Dartmouth.Dining.Services@Dartmouth.EDU. I hope that you will find our web pages helpful in answering your questions about dining at Dartmouth.
Again welcome to Dartmouth Dining Services.
We look forward to serving you.
Sincerely,
