Dartmouth Dining Services continuously strives to give our customers maximum value for their purchase dollars. An unfortunate fact of economic life is that the prices we pay for the food, supplies, equipment, wages and other services do increase over time. We take into account all such categories of expenses when determining our subsequent menu price increases, and obviously the price we pay for the food we serve is a major component of our cost structure. The events of recent months have presented DDS with many challenges relevant to the cost of our supplies and the prices we charge. While DDS is committed to keeping our corresponding retail price increases to a minimum, we do have to make menu price adjustments – normally one per year and almost always between summer and fall terms. The menu price increases we implemented last September, while slightly larger than those of recent years, still averaged out at less than 5%. The changes we made to menu prices were in line with the increases in the overall cost of our four dining plans, which in every case increased by between 4.0% and 5.0%.
