David Newlove,

Acting Director of Dining Services

Dartmouth’s diverse dining facilities are the hub of social activities on campus. The Dartmouth Dining Services (DDS) team is dedicated to meeting dining and nutritional needs, and enhancing the social atmosphere, for students, staff, and visitors on campus.

Dartmouth Dining Services, an award-winning collegiate food service, has always ranked highly with our customers. Our highest form of praise comes from our daily interactions with students, and the greater-Dartmouth community. Student input is always welcome when it comes to the variety, quality, and value of meals at Dartmouth

All of our dining venues provide à la carte dining, which means you can spend what you want on a meal or snack using your Dartmouth meal plan. Our meal plans are declining balance accounts (“DBA”) that can be rolled over each term until the end of each academic year. You must choose a particular DBA each term if you are a registered student, or living in a college residence in an off term, even if you are carrying over dollars from the previous term. "Going Negative," a term coined by students who use all their DBA money before the term is over, means you continue to dine though purchases that will be added to your college bill. For those students who need a larger meal plan we offer the “Big Green Plan,” that has the added feature of a 10% discount on purchases.

As one of the DBA components, $200.00 is deposited each term in the Topside Convenience Store account. However, while these dollars do not carry over, Topside DBA dollars may be spent in our other dining locations. Your Dartmouth food plan also allows you to buy food at athletic events at the DDS concession stands.

Thayer Dining Hall, Collis Center and the Hopkins Center are the main locations for dining on campus. Locations in the library and in the East Wheelock cluster also provide meals and snacks throughout the day.

The Pavilion, located in Thayer Hall, is the model used by many other colleges and universities when developing special venues to serve kosher and halal menu items.

DDS is committed to Sustainable Dining, working closely with the college sustainability club, to make dining services a cutting edge environmentally friendly work place.

On a personal note, if you have special dietary needs please see Beth Rosenberger, R.D. at Homeplate or Claudette Peck, the college nutritionist at Dick's House for counseling and dining information.

We look forward to serving you.
