Note. This course, an introduction to ethnographic field work, uses campus drinking as the vehicle for examining ethnographic methods. Thus, this course serves to move alcohol from a status primarily of "campus problem" to an issue of academic consideration.
The course reading list includes not only standard introductory, core ethnographic texts but also readings that provide a scholarly overview of issues related to alcohol use, its social context and determinants.
Note: This upper level psychology course addresses the different classes of psychoactive substance use. It has been taught by Professor Emeritus Robert Leaton and is anticipated that this will continue to be taught by other faculty in Psychological and Brain Sciences.
This is an interdisciplinary course offerred to Dartmouth College and Dartmouth Medical School Students.
