Members of the Class of 2013 will gain insight into their summer reading assignment directly from the book's subjects—Jim Yong Kim, Dr. Paul Farmer, and Ophelia Dahl. President Kim, Farmer, and Dahl will hold a panel discussion during Orientation for the '13s on Tracy Kidder's bestseller Mountains Beyond Mountains, which chronicles their work for global health.

Of what he hopes the book prompts students to ask, President Kim says, "The most important question is: What can a small group of committed souls accomplish in this world? And following from that: What is the nature of my responsibility to make the world a better place as a person who has the great good fortune to receive a Dartmouth education?"
To watch the discussion, tune in to Dartmouth's YouTube channel. The video will be available by the end of September.
