Statement on Academic Excellence
The following statement was adopted unanimously by the Board of Trustees during its Sept. 7 through 9 meeting.
The Board of Trustees has been in intense debate over the governance of the College. However, there is no debate-nor has there ever been one-on these facts:
- At Dartmouth, teaching and research are synergistic. Dartmouth needs both to achieve its goals.
- The Board affirms the strength of the Dartmouth faculty and recognizes the need to recruit the best scholar-teachers.
- Dartmouth is committed to maintaining the best learning environment for students and faculty.
- An integral part of the overall strength of Dartmouth is the quality of Dartmouth's professional schools, graduate programs, and the opportunity for collaboration across the campus.
