Just Plain Ethics

What is ethical business leadership, and why is it often lacking? What forces in organizations can lead people to betray their morals? Do profits have to conflict with principles? In April, a group of Dartmouth alumni and supporters gathered in New York to hear a distinguished panel of alumni experts address these and other questions of business ethics.

Sponsored jointly by the Development Office and the Tucker Foundation, the program, "Just Plain Ethics: Effective Moral Leadership in Business Today," featured panelists Dawn Hudson '79, H. Carl McCall '58, David Anders '91, and E. John Rosenwald Jr. '52, Tu'53. Hans Morris '80 hosted the event, and Richard Shreve, adjunct professor of business ethics at the Tuck School, moderated the discussion.

Stuart Lord, Virginia Rice Kelsey '61S Dean of the Tucker Foundation, delivered the opening address, saying, "The Tucker Foundation's mission is to educate Dartmouth students to be ethical leaders and responsible citizens in the global community. Many consider this mission to be at odds with corporate progress. We are here tonight to say this is not so."
