New book club connects generations

Each year, the entering class is asked to complete a summer reading in preparation for the Orientation class lecture. Richard Wright, Professor of Geography, delivered this year's lecture based on the Class of 2009's reading of Mountains Beyond Mountains: The Quest of Dr. Paul Farmer, A Man Who Would Cure the World by Tracy Kidder.

This year, the Office of Alumni Relations launches the Alumni Book Club at Dartmouth (ABCD), and invites alumni to connect with the Class of 2009 and each other by reading Mountains Beyond Mountains.

Throughout the year, ABCD will provide opportunities for faculty, staff, alumni and students to participate in discussions on campus, online and in regional gatherings that will examine the book's inspiring theme of hope and the power to effect change.

"The Alumni Book Club is a way for alumni to interact with students, continue their education and enjoy first-rate literature," said Stan Colla '66, Tu'86, Vice President for Alumni Relations. "Wherever you are, you can take part in the conversation."
