Wright Named to NCAA Task Force

President James Wright has been appointed to a National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) presidential task force that will study the future of college sports. In a statement, NCAA President Myles Brand said, "This is an important effort to discuss and address the next critical steps in shaping the future of intercollegiate athletics."

Wright will sit on the subcommittee charged with examining the Implications of Academic Values and Standards. The task force will meet this month to develop a list of the most immediate and pressing issues facing intercollegiate athletics.

"Student athletes are an important component of a college or university community," says Wright. "I'm looking forward to being part of the discussion that will ensure we protect our clear academic priorities while athletic competition can continue to thrive on our campuses."

Wright has previously served on the NCAA Division 1 Board of Governors. He was a member of the NCAA Task Force on Reform that developed new graduation requirements that help schools and programs be accountable for the academic progress of their athletes. Currently, he is chair of the Council of Ivy Group Presidents.
