Professor of economics Andrew A. Samwick has been appointed director of Dartmouth's Nelson A. Rockefeller Center, effective July 1. He has taught at Dartmouth since 1994.
Samwick graduated summa cum laude from Harvard in 1989 and earned a doctorate in economics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology in 1993. In 2000, he received Dartmouth's Karen E. Wetterhahn Award for Distinguished Creative or Scholarly Achievement. He has held several fellowships from Dartmouth, including the C. Troy Shaver 1969 Fellowship, the Elizabeth R. and Robert A. Jeffe Fellowship, and a Dartmouth Faculty Fellowship. Additionally, he has been an Aging and Health Care Economics Fellow and currently is a research associate with the National Bureau of Economic Research. A specialist in Social Security reform, Samwich co-organized the bureau's Social Security Working Group. He recently served as the chief economist on the staff of President George W. Bush's Council of Economic Advisers.
