  • Ms. Watanabe earned her graduate degree in Linguistics and Language Pedagogy, and has taught all levels of Japanese language in both the U.S. and Japan.   She served as language coordinator for programs at two other colleges before moving to Dartmouth in 1992.  She is currently working on developing a new textbook and interactive materials.

      (she replaced Professor Shigeru Miyagawa, who was on leave that year, as head of the beginning and intermediate language programs)
    • The American School in Japan: Japanese teacher in both the middle school and the high school
    • Yale University: Lector in Japanese
      (she taught both intensive and non-intensive first-year and second-year classes, and in the summer program)
    • Connecticut College: Senior Lecturer in Japanese
      (she taught all levels from first through fourth years and served as acting Chair of the Department of Japanese )
    • Harvard University: Instructor in Japanese
    • Middlebury College: Instructor in the summer language school
      (first-year Japanese, third-year Japanese, and fourth-year Japanese)
