Description
This course is a continuation of Japanese 2. You will continue learning the basic grammar of modern colloquial Japanese through active study of increasingly complex sentence patterns and kanji.

Requirements
  1. You are required to do the following hours of class work:
    1. Drill classes -- which will be held T.-F. at 7:45 and 5:20.
    2. Master classes -- will be held every day at 9 am and at 10/10A.
  2. You are required to memorize the "Core Conversations" in the text, and to come to class fully prepared to actively and fluently reproduce and understand them.
  3. You are required to complete all drills and reading assignments.
  4. You are required to do all assignments on time according to the schedule. All written assignments will be given to you in class, and the due dates will be announced each time. Short quizzes and the "Utilization" sections of the text will be handled in the drill classes.

Grades
You will be evaluated on your daily preparation of the "Core Conversations," on a scale of 0-3, as follows:
    0 = no preparation (absence is included);
    1 = weak preparation;
    2 = good preparation, but some problems in fluency or usage;
    3 = complete preparation.
    Final Gradeswill be calculated as follows:
    1. In-class performance(attendance is included) = 10%
    2. In-class performance(attendance is included) = 10%
    3. Quizzes = 10%
    4. Tests (Take-home tests are included) = 50%
    5. Final Exam = 20%
This formula is not set in stone, and we will make allowances for other factors, such as overall improvement over the course of the term.

Make-up policy
If you have an unexcused absence, you will not be allowed to make up short quizzes or examinations. However, if you have a legitimate reason:
  • Quizzes--You have to make it up before the next quiz.
  • Examinations--you have to make it up within five days from the scheduled day for the test.
