You and I

At the time
I had thought it was you
But it was not you.

I Also thought it was I
Who was with you
But it was not I.

And thinking back
I realize that I must have been
Somewhere else at the time.

And so it was not us
When we were together
Neither you nor I.

And I never really knew you
Though you thought I did
For actually we never met.
