Heading on down Morrison Street
on down West Coates as well
Through Haymarket to the West End
and the Caledonian Hotel
That's where I met a bonnie lass
who made my heart to swell
It seemed as I had known her
for a lifetime, maybe longer
Her dark hair and her dark eyes
made my soul to hunger
Her wisdom and her beauty
made my destitution linger
In front of the Caledonian
the time it was half-nine
But I felt I was in a land
not limited by time
And I said softly in her ear
by Midnite you'll be mine
Her innocent and tender smile
made her look so sweet
She took my hand and led me
down well-lit Princes Street
High above, the castle kept it's watch
o'er the city at it's feet
Hand in hand we strolled along
the Royal Mile, in soft moonlight
There she turned and kissed me
then she faded out of sight
Leaving me alone with the castle
and the night
Trying to forget her
I spend my nights and days
Drinking pints and whiskey
in a pub across the way
And now I feel like I've been run through
by a dragoon of Royal Scots Greys
