There are many great routes that go through Bradford. In order to condense that vast number of possible routes involving Bradford, I have described eight distinct ways to ride between Hanover and Bradford. Take one route for the trip out, and pick another for the way home. By my math, that means you can make 56 different routes of varying length from these options! Routes are describes as from Hanover.
Route 1: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bradford-via-Tunbridge-Chelsea-Goose-Green-S-rd
89km. This is a sweet way to get to bradford, a bit on the longer side. It is possible to make the route entirely paved.. Head out for Tunbridge via S. Strafford, go over the Tunbridge climb (also described in the Tunbridge loop), then go right on Rt 110 instead of left. Take that into Chelsea, where you turn right on 113 and climb steadily for quite awhile. Turn left at the top on Goose green road and descend into goose green. Take a right in goose green to stay on goose green rd. Look for a right onto South Rd. This dirt road climbs, then descends into Bradford. Alternately you can continue on Goose Green rd. to 25A and take a right. This route is paved, but 25A is a little sucky.
Route 2: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bradford-via-River-rd-fairlee-lake-morey
39km. All paved. Take river rd and rt 10 to orford, then cross into Vermont. Take a left to go south on rt 5, and turn right at the major intersection at the end of town (signs will say this is the way to I-91). Go under the highway, and take the first right to start around lake morey. Take a right on Maurice Roberts Memorial Hghwy. Not sure if there is a street sign, but it is the first right that actually goes anywhere (some small streets go into neighborhood homes). This climbs, then descends (the descent is rough, especially in mid-winter) and T's into route 5. take a left to continue less than a mile to bradford.
http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Piermont-Bradford
4km. This is the short jog from Bradford, to Piermont across the river. Use if applicable for route length calculations.
Route 3: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bradford-via-River-rd-and-rt10
41km. This is the second most boring way to get to Bradford, but it is flat, short(er) and good in winter. Take river road, then route 10 north to Piermont. Take a left on rt 25 to head west, cross the connecticut, and head into bradford.
Route 4: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bradford-via-rt5
39km. This is the most boring way to get to bradford. Take rt 5 north.
Route 5: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bradford-via-Fairlee-5-corners-Morey
47km. Take rt 5 north to rt132. Bear right off of 132 on to Academy road. Cross the covered bridge, and climb academy hill (or better yet, go into the Union Village Dam park, and take the dirt road all the way through to 113 -- you can get through even when the park is closed, just don't try it once it's snowy), take a left on 113. Then take a right on five corners road. Climb all the way up to the 5-way intersection, and bear slight left (quinibeck rd). Congratulations, you just went around the back-side of lake fairlee. Go to the end, and turn left (this is rt244) and descend down to rt 5. Turn left (north) and head to Fairlee. Take a left towards the entrance to I-91 (see route 2), take your first right, then look for a right turn (1st one that goes through) that takes you north to bradford. Once you descend to route 5 again, turn left and it's less than a mile to bradford.
Route 6: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bradford-via-Warren-25A-25C
82km. This is a very old-school, very sweet ride (all paved). I've gone big and combined this with route 7, but normally it is done as combined with route 2, 4, or 5. From bradford, head east on rt 25 to peirmont. Head straight across the intersection with rt 10, to join 25C. Take 25C (up, and then down) into Warren. Turn right on rt 25. Stop at the gas station for food and water. I recomend the
Doritos. Take rt 25 south, and take a right on 25A. 25A takes you back into orford. You may elect to take tigertown rd, which is sweet -- look it up on google maps. From orford/25A (or tigertown) head south (left) on rt10 back to hanover. I recommend taking River road most of the way -- it turns off left of rt 10 a couple miles south of orford.
Route 7: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bradford-via-Eagle-Hollow
59km. Take 113 north (get there however you like - route 5 to thetford, 132/academy hill, or best take 132/academy rd and go through the union village dam park) past fairlee to vershire. Turn left on eagle hollow ride. Climb on dirt, and descend, into goose green. turn right on goose green road. Look for a left (south rd), which climbs on dirt and descends into bradford. Alternately you can stay straight on goose green to 25A, but 25A is kinda crappy, and south rd is very sweet.
Route 8: http://www.bikely.com/maps/bike-path/Bradford-via-Wild-Hill
49km. This is perhaps my favorite way to Bradford. Go to 113 north any way you choose, and turn right on 244 to head to fairlee. Most of the way around the lake, turn left on middlebrook road. Stay straight on middlebrook for several miles. Climb, climb, it turns to dirt, descend (i like this road best in the reverse direction, coming from bradford) into a stop sign. In front of you is south road (see routes 7 and 1). Take a right, and you immediately come to rt 25 -- take a right to head into the main bradford intersection (25 and 10).
