Domestic Automobile Insurance Coverage

For domestic rentals, the College’s insurance will cover the individual as well as the vehicle when the vehicle is rented for business purposes; therefore, employees should not sign (or initial) for additional insurance coverage provided by car rental companies.

Travelers must use the JPMorganChase Corporate Card to receive free primary collision damage waiver (CDW) insurance for the value of a rental vehicle. This reduces the College’s expenditures for any accidents, and will prevent you from potentially incurring a personal expense of $500 for the deductible due to any at-fault accidents. This coverage is currently available worldwide, and includes automobiles, mini-vans and sport utility vehicles traveling on municipal, state and federally maintained roads. Travelers not using the JPMorganChase Corporate Card will not be reimbursed should they select the CDW insurance coverage.

Employees extending their travel for personal reasons will need to acquire separate insurance coverage for the personal segment of their trip. The College will not reimburse for this additional insurance. Spouses or friends traveling with a Dartmouth employee will not be covered by the College's insurance and should acquire separate insurance coverage.

College owned/leased departmental vehicles or motorized equipment and the fleet of VOX rental vehicles are insured for auto liability (bodily injury and property damage), comprehensive, and collision coverage as appropriate. In case of damage to a College owned/leased or rental vehicle, it is the responsibility of the department to fund the cost of the deductibles: $100 per claim for comprehensive and $500 per claim for collision.
