Major Description

The department is committed to exploring the visual cultures of diverse peoples, places and periods in intellectually searching ways. Courses in the undergraduate curriculum range from the prehistoric to the contemporary eras and explore visual traditions of diverse regions of the globe. They introduce students to various histories of traditional and new media while tackling specific historical phenomena or particular thematic problems through the department's more advanced offerings. All courses emphasize visual and critical analysis-skill sets with applicability in a wide variety of careers and professions.
