Student Responsibilities in Recruiting

We encourage you to bring questions, concerns, or suggestions to us at any time throughout the recruiting process. Email SRS or call 646-1163/2665. We can provide advice on how to answer interview questions; how to respond to pressure from peers, an employer, or family member; what questions to ask when considering an offer, and many other topics. In order to maximize opportunities for Dartmouth students and preserve the integrity of this program, we have developed the set of policies below. Failure to comply may result in the loss of recruiting privileges.

Misrepresentation

Students who participate in any application process supported by Career Services (employment or graduate school) must accurately represent their academic and personal history on any documentation submitted as part of their application. Any student who knowingly misrepresents information will not only lose the support of Career Services in all future application processes but may be referred to the undergraduate Judicial Affairs Office for further disciplinary action.

**IMPORTANT** Students must be living in Hanover for the term in order to sign up for On-Campus Interview time slots (through DartBoard). If you sign up for an On-Campus Interview during a term in which you are off campus on a leave term, this is considered misrepresentation.

Please note: Students who are off campus on a leave term MAY APPLY for these opportunities by following specific instructions in each job/internship description listed on DartBoard for Off-Campus Candidates. These students are expected to arrange for interviews either by phone or at the employer's work sites.

Interview Scheduling

Students are expected to put academics first. Interviews should be scheduled around academic commitments. Students should sign up for interviews based on sincere interest not "practice". In addition, students are expected to negotiate second-round and subsequent interview dates/times so that there is no conflict with academics and previously scheduled first-round interviews. If you feel that an employer is pressuring you to take a second round interview at a specific date/time that causes difficulty, contact SRS immediately, so that we can help.

Changes/Cancellations

You may change or cancel your interview time slot up until 12:59 am TWO BUSINESS DAYS PRIOR to your interview (e.g. 12:59 am Wednesday for a Friday interview).  Neither changes nor cancellations are accepted after that point, as final schedules have been confirmed with employers. To change or cancel an interview, follow the procedure posted on the "Career Services" and the "Career Services - Entry-Level Jobs" bulletins titled "How to Change or Cancel an Interview."  Do not contact employers directly to change or cancel on-campus interviews.

No Shows

Not showing up for an interview will seriously jeopardize further participation in the recruiting program. Students are expected to call Career Services in case of emergency. Unless you have cancelled your interview by 12:59 am TWO BUSINESS DAYS PRIOR, you will be considered a "no show" and will not be permitted to continue interviews without clearance from Career Services.

Offers

Deciding on Offers: In order to provide students with sufficient time to complete their employment search and make an informed decision, employers participating in our Program have agreed to comply with the following deadlines.

On Campus Interviews - Timing of Entry-Level Offer:

Deadline for Student's Decision on Offer

Offer extended after you completed an internship:

November 30, 2009 (or two weeks - whichever is later)

Offer extended after Fall Interviews:

November 30, 2009 (or two weeks - whichever is later)

Offer extended after Winter Interviews:

March 1, 2010 (or two weeks - whichever is later)

Timing of Internship Offers:

Offer extended:

Students have a minimum of 1 full week to decide on offers for the next term (e.g. winter offer for spring) and a minimum of 2 full weeks to decide on offers for later terms (e.g. winter for summer or fall).

Resume Drops:

Offers extended by employers who did not visit campus:

Two weeks from date of offer

No exploding bonuses should be offered for early acceptances.

Reneging on Offers: After a job offer is accepted, students are expected to stop all further interviewing and notify employers with whom they have an offer or interview pending and then notify SRS. If you are having difficulty making a decision on an offer, we encourage you to discuss your situation with us.

Any student who withdraws an acceptance (i.e. reneges on an offer), after initially accepting an employment offer obtained through the recruiting program, will immediately lose all recruiting privileges.
