What is Recruiting and Who Can Participate?

The Recruiting Program is designed to:

  • Encourage students to inventory their portfolio of experiences.
  • Assist students in developing lifelong job search skills (resume and cover letter writing, career and employer research, networking, interviewing skills, and more).
  • Enable students to evaluate and apply for individual opportunities.

Use DartBoard to search and apply for internships or entry-level jobs represented in our recruiting program.

Use DartBoard to search and apply for jobs that are being advertised to Dartmouth students and alumni OUTSIDE of the Recruiting Program.

Employers from a variety of industries and locations are encouraged to join the recruiting program.  No matter how hard we try to attract a wide range of employers, only a small fraction - those who have substantial resources and hiring needs - will commit to on-campus recruiting.  Many organizations, such as social service organizations, scientific and law firms, government agencies, publishing houses, and public relations firms, prefer to have individuals contact them directly to indicate their interest.  These employers will post jobs in DartBoard.  The 'Job Search' link lists thousands of positions with U.S. and international organizations specifically seeking Dartmouth students, as compared to about 200 employers in the Recruiting Program link in the DartBoard site.  The 'Active Recruiting Events' menu on the 'Recruiting Program' toolbar is where you will find all information related to upcoming recruiting program opportunities.

Student Eligibility

Our entry-level recruiting program is open to:

  • Enrolled A.B. students of Dartmouth College
  • Graduating B.E., M.E.M., M.S. and Ph.D. students from Thayer School of Engineering
  • Graduate students in Arts and Sciences

Only enrolled students may participate. Once you have graduated, you are no longer eligible.

If you are OFF CAMPUS

For RESUME DROPS

Off campus students may use DartBoard to apply, as these employers already plan to interview via phone or off-campus locations.

For ON-CAMPUS/PRESELECT interviews

Only students who are currently ON CAMPUS may apply for ON-CAMPUS interviews via DartBoard.

Most employers are willing to schedule phone interviews OR interviews in another location for off-campus students.

If you are off campus and interested in an ENTRY-LEVEL ON-CAMPUS INTERVIEW OPPORTUNITY, e-mail your application materials DIRECTLY to the employer, using the e-mail address that appears in the detailed job description in DartBoard.  Explain that you are currently off campus.  Do NOT apply via DartBoard.

If you are off campus and applying for an INTERNSHIP, follow the instructions for off campus students provided in the qualifications section of each job/internship description.  Each employer has specified  how off-campus students should apply for internships.

Recruiting Services Available to You

Resume Drops

Through our online recruiting system, DartBoard, Career Services collects and forwards resumes/cover letters of interested students to employers. Employers then contact selected students DIRECTLY (within 3 weeks of the submission deadline) to arrange interviews via telephone or AT THEIR OFFICES. During fall and winter terms, resume drop deadlines correspond with on-campus interview deadlines. During spring term, a brief announcement of each upcoming Resume Drop and its deadline will be posted on the "Career Services" or "Career Services-Entry-Level Jobs" blitz bulletin, as opportunities arise.

On-Campus Interviews

While the majority of entry-level on-campus interviewing occurs during Fall Term, recruiting occurs at lower levels during Winter, Spring and Summer terms, for employers with later hiring cycles. Internship recruiting occurs year round.  See Dartmouth Recruiting Calendar, and access our online system, DartBoard, to browse opportunities and apply online. Career fields represented in our program include: Marketing, Communications/Media, Health/Science, Education, Public Service, Consulting, Financial Services, Information Technology, Law, and Public Policy/Politics/Government.

Job Fairs

Job fairs will be announced via Career Services blitz bulletins as details become available. These include:

Employer Connections Fair: October 1 - 2, 2008, Noon-4:00pm, Alumni Hall/Top of the Hop

Engineering & Technology Fair: October 7, 2008, 1:00pm - 5:00pm, McLean Engineering Sciences Center
