Comprehensive Sites that Explore Diversity and Career Development

  • The American Institute for Managing Diversity - national nonprofit diversity think tank that is committed to demonstrating the power and potential of diversity management through research, education and public outreach.
  • MentorNet - provides all students in engineering, science and mathematics the opportunity, as protégés, to be matched in one-on-one e-mentoring relationships with mentors who have work experience in industry, government, and higher education. Get "real world" information, encouragement, and advice from professionals in your field. Women and other under-represented students are particulary encouraged to apply.
  • The Black Collegian - the electronic version of The Black Collegian Magazine, which provides rich content and resources to all people of color seeking career and self-development information.
  • Diversity Inc. - publishes content every business day, original content is only available to paying subscribers, however, diversity news briefs, published under license from the Associate Press, the Career Center and Diversity Resource Guide are available for free.
  • IMDiversity -  dedicated to providing career and self-development information to all minorities, specifically African Americans, Asian Americans, Hispanic Americans, Native Americans and women.
  • The Multicultural Advantage Career Management Center - provides coverage of workplace issues and trends and job listings.
  • The Riley Guide "Resources for Women, Minorities, and Other Affinity Groups and Audiences" - resources specifically that meet the needs or address the interests of various groups, such as women, persons of varied nationalities or ethnic backgrounds.

Population-Specific Resources

For African American or Black Students

  • Black Alumni of Dartmouth Association - provides the continuing and active support of the College's Black Alumni in matters affecting the intellectual, cultural, social and educational well being of the Black Alumni and members of the Black and other minority communities, as well as the greater College community at Dartmouth.
  • The Black Collegian - the electronic version of The Black Collegian Magazine, which provides rich content and resources to all people of color seeking career and self-development information.
  • Black Excel - offers an extensive scholarship database.
  • Urban League Employment Network - The Urban League Employment Network is backed by the National Urban League and dedicated to helping diverse students find employment opportunities.

For Asian American Students

  • Dartmouth Asian Pacific American Alumni Association - aims to foster community among the Asian Pacific American alumni of the College, to further the intellectual, social, cultural and educational well-being of the Asian Pacific American alumni and students of the College, as well as to provide the College and the greater College community, with active support of the Asian Pacific American alumni in matters of mutual concern.

For International Students

  • Dartmouth College International Office - assists international students, faculty, and scholars who study and work at the College and assists internationals in maintaining their legal non-immigrant status once enrolled or working at the College.  The office also supports a range of programs campus-wide, and encourages the greater Dartmouth community to get involved in international events and cultural exchanges, which promote a better understanding of the world in which we live.

For Latino, Latina, or Hispanic American Students

  • Dartmouth Association of Latino Alumni - engages the diverse voices of its membership in dialog that drives the improvement of the Dartmouth Latino experience for both alumni and students.
  • Hispanic Alliance for Career Enhancement - HAVE is dedicated to incubating and nurturing Latinos at all stages of the career continuum from high school to college and on to the professional years.
  • Society for Advancement of Chicanos and Native Americans in Science - SACNAS encourages Chicano/Latino and Native American students to pursue graduate education and obtain the advanced degrees necessary for science research, leadership, and teaching careers at all levels.
  • Saludos.com - specializes in joining the Hispanic bilingual professional with companies looking for diversity in the workplace.

For Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, or Transgender Students

  • Dartmouth's Gay, Lesbian, Bisexual & Transgender Alumni/ae Association - association with over 400 members that discuss issues specific to Dartmouth alums and students, LGBT and otherwise.
  • Federal GLOBE - organization's purpose is to eliminate prejudice and discrimination in the federal government based on sexual orientation.
  • Gay and Lesbian Professionals - job search engine providing employment opportunities and resources to the GLBT job seeker in the US.
  • GayExecutive.com - the site includes a number of tips on improving your resume and cover letter as well as advice on dealing with gay specific workplace issues.
  • GayWork.com - provides at no charge the ability for any job seeker to post their resume and search the job posting database.
  • Human Rights Campaign - works to advance equality based on sexual orientation and gender expression and identity, to ensure that GLBT Americans can be open and safe at home, at work and in the community.
  • National Organization of Gay and Lesbian Scientists and Technology Professionals - NOGLSTP is a national organization of gay, lesbian, bisexual, and transgender people (and their advocates) employed or interested in scientific or high technology fields.
  • Out & Equal Workplace Advocates - champions safe and equitable workplaces for LGBT people.
  • Planet Out - offers the Corporate Pride Directory to help job-seekers make more informed decisions about how the companies they are considering treat the GLBT community and offers many other timely career resources.
  • ProGayJobs - provides resources to LGBT job seekers to find jobs with companies that embrace diversity.

  • Association of American Medical College's Summer Medical Education Program - a national academic enrichment program that helps promising, highly motivated students gain admission to medical school.
  • The Biomedical Science Careers Program - provides students of all races, ethnic backgrounds, gender and financial status with encouragement, support and guidance needed for the successful pursuit of careers in biomedical sciences.
  • Black Excel - offers an extensive scholarship database.
  • The Gates Millennium Scholars - provides outstanding African American, American Indian/Alaska Natives, Asian Pacific Islander Americans, and Hispanic American students with an opportunity to complete undergraduate college education, in all discipline areas and a graduate education for those students pursuing studies in mathematics, science, engineering, education, or library science.  The goal of GMS is to promote academic excellence and to provide an opportunity for thousands of outstanding students with significant financial need to reach their fullest potential.
  • HireDiversity.com - facilitates diversity recruitment by bringing together human resource professionals with multicultural and/or bilingual professional candidates from diverse backgrounds.
  • Inroads - develops and places talented minority youth in business and industry.
  • Mellon Mays Undergraduate Fellowship - aims to increase the number of minority students, and others with a demonstrated commitment to eradicating racial disparities, who will pursue PhDs in core fields in the arts and sciences.  The program aims to reduce over time the serious underrepresentation on the faculties of individuals from certain minority groups, as well as to address the attendant educational consequences of these disparities.
  • Smithsonian Institution Office of Fellowships - offers a number of internship programs for minority students interested in a variety of fields including history, art, culture and science.
  • Sponsors for Educational Opportunity (SEO) - provides services through three major programs:  the Career Program, the SEO Scholars Program, and SIRV (Saving, Investing and Returning Value in Communities of Color).
  • Woodrow Wilson School of Public and International Affairs Junior Summer Institute - trains future leaders for government service and other public service careers and by cultivating the development of leaders equipped to interact effectively with people from diverse backgrounds in an era of globalization.
