Follow Up on Your Interview

Candidates who demonstrate genuine interest, enthusiasm and persistence are highly valued.

Write a Thank You Note

  • See Thank You Letter (Writing Job Search Letters - 62K PDF File) to help you write your letter.
  • Snail mail or email? If the interview decision is being made in less than a week, email your thank you. Use the Postal Service for your thank you note if the decision will take longer.
  • 24-hour rule. Whichever method you choose, be sure to send your thank you note within 24 hours of the interview.

Send Necessary Follow-up Materials

Provide any requested supporting documents as soon as possible (e.g. writing sample, copy of transcript, references, etc.)

Ask for Feedback

Regardless of the interview outcome, ask what you might have done better. Don't hesitate to ask for specific feedback on your resume, cover letter, interview preparation and interview performance. This information will help you with your next interview.
