3. How do I determine a rate for my service center?

A: Your rate should represent the cost per unit of output used to recover the expenses incurred to provide the service or product.

Rate = Budgeted Expenses +/- Prior Year's Surplus/Deficit

Budgeted Level of Activity

This calculated rate is consistently applied to the actual level of activity when charging users for your service or product.

Annually, analysts from the Controller's Office meet with all service centers to review their rate calculation and budgets for the next fiscal year. There is an assigned analyst for each existing service center, for any specific questions contact your assigned analyst.
