There are 3 options for a major in Comparative Literature:
Major A: Two foreign literatures
This major consists of 10 courses: CL72, 85, 87, at least 2 additional Comparative Literature courses, 3 or 4 courses in the primary literature and 1 or 2 courses in the secondary literature. Fluency in the primary language is required (3 courses above the level of 10) and a reading knowledge (at the level of 10) in the secondary language.
[Students interested in graduate study in Comparative Literature are strongly encouraged to choose Major option A.]
Major B: Two literatures (one of which is in English)
This major consists of 12 courses: CL72, 85, 87, at least two additional Comparative Literature courses, 3 or 4 courses in the foreign literature, and at least 3 courses in the anglophone literature. Fluency is required in the foreign language (3 courses beyond the level of 10).
Major C: A foreign literature and a non-literary discipline
This major consists of 12 courses: CL72, 85, 87, at least two additional Comparative Literature courses, 3 or 4 courses in the foreign literature, and at least 3 courses in the non-literary discipline. fluency is required in the foreign language (3 courses ordinarily above the level of 10).
For all three major options, the exact distribution of courses is flexible. Individual majors may have to adjust these course plans according to their individual needs.
