Mathematics and Graphics

  • Maple - Maple is available for Windows, Macintosh and UNIX computers. Maple can be downloaded from http://caligari.dartmouth.edu/downloads/maple. See the Maplesoft home page at Waterloo Maple, Inc for additional information.
  • Matlab - An interactive program for high-performance numeric computation and visualization developed by MathWorks.
  • Mathematica - An interactive program that does numerical, symbolic, and graphical computations and visualization. If you run it remotely under X Windows, you will need to set up a font server. See the Mathematica home page at Wolfram.
  • Gnuplot - A program that displays 2D and 3D plots in a variety of formats.
  • OpenDX - A data visualization software package that does 2D and 3D graphics, including volume visualization and animation. See the OpenDX home page.
  • Interactive Data Language (IDL) - A computing environment for the interactive analysis and visualization of data.
  • ArcView 3.1 and ARC/INFO 7.2 - GIS (Geographic Information Systems) packages from ESRI for analyzing spatial data, especially geographic, remote sensing, and demographic data. See ESRI's home page
