Guests are invited to stay in College residence halls. As undergraduate residences, they do not offer the amenities found in a hotel or inn, but their convenience to on-campus events makes them a popular housing option.
Information about residence hall room reservations and an application form are sent to graduating students' families in early March. Applications will be due with payment to the Office of Residential Life by early April. Guests whose applications are postmarked after the application deadline will be housed only if space is available. A fee will apply for canceled reservations.
Residence hall rooms are available for guest occupancy from 2:00 p.m. on Friday of Commencement Weekend until 2 p.m. on Commencement Day. With several reunion classes arriving on Monday, the College is not able to accommodate any Commencement guests on Sunday night.
Students who are graduating may retain their own rooms until 12 noon on Monday, June 14. Early graduates who are returning for Commencement, and their spouses or partners, are guests of the College in residence halls for that weekend, but they must return an application by the early April deadline.
For additional information, please call the Commencement and Reunion Housing Office at (603) 646-3288 or visit their web site at http://www.dartmouth.edu/~orl/housing/cr-housing/.
Please note: The Hanover Inn is reserved for Trustees, honorary degree recipients, and the 50-year reunion class.
The Commencement and Reunion Housing Office is located in the main lounge of Mid-Massachusetts Hall. During Commencement weekend, the office is staffed 24 hours a day beginning on Friday to assist Commencement guests with questions, accommodate late arrivals, and handle any emergencies that may arise. Commencement staff also will be stationed in each of the residence halls from 8:00 a.m. until 1:00 a.m. during Commencement weekend to assist guests during their stay. The residence halls open for Commencement guests at 2:00 p.m. on Friday; guests are required to vacate the halls by 2:00 p.m. on Commencement day.
For assistance in finding off-campus accommodations, the following may be of help:
The Office of Conferences and Special Events publishes "A Guide to Lodging and Restaurants in the Hanover Area." This document is mailed to parents and guardians of undergraduate Commencement participants the spring before their scheduled Commencement and distributed to graduates from graduate and professional schools. It is intended to serve as a guide to many area accommodations and restaurants and does not represent a recommendation by Dartmouth College.
"A Guide to Lodging and Restaurants in the Hanover Area" is updated each spring. Please note, therefore, that some of the information contained in the "Guide" might not be accurate, pending updates in the spring; we suggest you contact each establishment directly to confirm details.
