The Dartmouth Collage is the outcome of a one-day collaborative event sponsored by Dartmouth's Computing Services. The materials of the collage are portraits of individuals in the Dartmouth community, and the backing is the World Wide Web.
On Collection Day, May 7, 1997, faculty members, students, and staff were invited to submit a portrait of themselves anything from a poem recitation to a pair of worn hiking boots to a single word. Individuals arrived at the collection station with their portrait, and staff from Computing Services and the student Webmaster group recorded, digitized, and assembled the individual portraits into a Web collage.
Through these portraits of the people of this small, liberal arts college in New Hampshire, we hope to somehow tell of the harmonies and paradoxes that comprise the spirit of the College.
