Tom Kirkpatrick: Topic 7: Are There Limits to Science?

The group did a respectable job in presenting their
topic although at times I found it a bit slow. The
old addage of "keep it simple" always applies to
presentations although I know it's difficult to edit
out all the great material you discover during your
research of the topic. There were times where your
presenters were putting out relevent material but it
tended to drag a bit and once you've caused an
audiences atttnetion to wander its tough to ge it
back. Spice it up!!
My view on whether or not there are limits to science
is no! Science is limitless. Even though we can
think that we have discovered the smallest particle
or the furthest point in the cosmos or unraveled the
greatest mystery there is always a greater challenge
just over the horizon. I think it is very
precoscious of us if we believe our current science
is the end all be all of discovery and exploration.
As many things as we can think of that we feel we
have mastered one could easily think of many many
more that lie still untouched.
Additionally, all of the accepted scientific
foundations could eadily be proven to be incorrect
and an entirely new dimension to science would
quickly form. What if tomorrow some genius discovers
that all of Newton's laws are fundamentally flawed
and a search for a new set of rules msut be
initiated. The possibilities are endless. Just look
at how many species lie undiscovered right here in
earth's oceans. Now consider that the universe is
infinite and wonder how long it may take to explore
all of the universe's planets and oceans. Endless I
say.......!
