The Lester Reid '56 Academic Enrichment Fund

The Department of Classics invites applications for a departmental enrichment fund designed to offer modest financial support (up to $750.00) to full-time Dartmouth students who wish to pursue a formal course or other program of study off campus in the field of Classics during an off term. The Department of Classics encourages students who plan to attend or participate in language study, excavations, or comparable activities (e.g., summer institutes) to apply for support. Funds may be used for travel, tuition, or supplies. The application should include a brief statement of purpose, a proposed budget, the approval of the student's major advisor, and one letter of recommendation from a member of the Classics Department. Applicants should include documentation of their acceptance to a formal course of study, internship, excavation, or similar.

Students in all fields of Classics are eligible. Preference will be given to students who are:

  • Not previous recipients of this fellowship
  • Holders of a G.P.A. in Classics of 3.3 or better
  • Majors (all fields) in the Classics Department
  • Minors (all fields) in the Classics Department

Note: Students who wish to conduct research over the summer term for a Senior Honors Project are encouraged to seek funding from other college resources outside the Classics Department. Information about such sources can be found at the Office of Undergraduate Advising & Research.

Fellowships will normally be awarded for the summer term. Review of applications will begin on May 1st. Students needing to secure funding in order to accept a position in a summer seminar, course, or excavation et al. may apply early to the department and specify the program's deadlines on their applications. Receipt of applications closes on May 20th.
