Week One: 22 September

As a kind of busman's holiday several of us trekked out to visit the imposing remains of the Claudian aqueducts in the countryside east of Rome. For anyone interested in visiting these, take the Metro line A out to the "Subaugusta" stop, and walk south until you reach the vast archaeological zone. We found ourselves surrounded by wild arugula and fig trees growing in the rich soil around the remains. There was time for a picnic but then the rains came in and we took refuge in a bar near the park.
