Major and Minor Programs

The Classics department offers four majors and minors: Ancient History, Classical Archaeology, Classical Languages and Literatures, and Classical Studies. All major students need to complete the Culminating Experience Requirement.  The
requirements are listed below.

Getting started with your major or minor

A. A student contemplating a major or minor should arrange a meeting with a regular faculty member whose teaching and research are focused in the relevant major track. A CLST major may meet with any regular faculty member, or may choose to meet with one whose teaching and research include the area of emphasis that the CLST major would like to pursue.

B. The faculty member and major/minor candidate should confer and fill out the worksheets and major cards together. The cards are to be initialed by the advising faculty member.

C. The chair will check and sign the completed card. This step does not require a meeting with the student (i.e., the card can be left for the chair in the main office).

D. One signed card will be submitted to the Registrar by the student, one will be kept on file by the department, and one will be held by the student. After filing, the new major will be assigned a formal advisor by the department.
