Map for Week 10
22 May: Ani and Melissa Reporting: Today we had a semi-free day. This morning we woke up at the leisurely hour of 9 am! The majority of us took the bus to Chora and some of us were lucky enough to arrive at the museum in white fiats. The museum was rather impressive and had an extensive collection of Geometric pottery from the site of Zagoria. We also spent some time looking at an impressive marble copy of a Praxitelian Hermes. After our tour of the museum most of the group headed back to the hotel while Sarah Murray, Chris Young, Evan the Golden, Mike Martinez and Ani Kokobobo were driven to the site of Zagoria by the dynamic duo of Pavlos Christesen and Elizabeth Sullivan each maneuvering a white fiat through the streets of Andros. After a rather long hike the fearless group managed to find the site of Zagoria from where we made a rather ‘smooth’ descend down the steep hillside to an empty tourist-free beach. We swam, some snorkled, some read the Odyssey. Sarah Murray after putting on an Abercrombie and Fitch halter-top, proceeded to put down her rather blonde hair, and apply a great deal of makeup from an incredibly large Christian Dior makeup bag that she seems to have been carrying in her backpack all along - she did all of this in preparation for the photographs that Evan the Golden and Dr. Pavlos were taking of her. She refused to swim afterwards, for fear that the makeup would smear. After the pleasant stay at the beach, the group gingerly made their way up the hillside. This entailed some rock-climbing in sandals, and many catapulted plastic bags since some of us needed both hands to get up the hill. Once up the hillside we drove back into Batsi in order to catch up with the rest of the group for an inspiring Odyssey discussion. The rest of our compatriots seemed rather relaxed. Kari Dallas, Melissa Henley, Sarah Jones, and Rebecca Perkins had wandered around most of the day at Chora looking for an internet café. But as they would soon discover internet café and German tourists come together, Andros seems to lack both. Randall Lynn and Anais Wheeler lived the high life of hotel resting and Odyssey reading, and so did Leslie Bonaventura, and Liz Vaughan. Katie Christensen however, decided that she would take a break from the Odyssey and read Memoirs of a Geisha all day long. She has clearly outlived the trashy romance novel. When our group reunited at 7pm, a long and thoughtful Odyssey discussion followed and we were dazzled by some group members who chose to share some personal and insightful things with us.
