Map for Week 10

21 May: Leslie and Sarah Reporting: We started off in Mykonos with notes at the hotel, then walked down to the port to board the boat to Delos, which is basically uninhabited, but was a major commercial and sanctuary site. Here we were constantly overhearing lectures given in broken English to crowds of mature tourists, but I think this really enriched the experience. The site did have a great snack bar, which everyone ended up at after looking around the museum. Then, we were free to wander the site until the boat left to get back to Mykonos. Once there, a few of us had a peaceful lunch while others took it for the team and transported our stuff down to the port because after struggling uphill the day before, downhill was clearly unacceptable. While we ate our lunch, several tourists tried to make friends with a pelican, the island’s symbol, that was hanging out by the restaurant and managed to make it stretch out its neck and swallow them (it got pretty close, but no go). Then we all boarded the boat to Andros, during which some people (Liz) sunbathed, others read and slept, and Prof Christesen practiced his skills for a future career at Beauty Shots. Once we arrived in the town at Andros, we discovered that we were trapped because someone had just caught the last taxi and the bus didn’t leave for 3 hours. While debating whether to rent a car and let Mike drive it, a taxi pulled up and there was much rejoicing. Eventually, everyone had been ferried over to the “resort” town, the hotel found, and then we rolled out to the beach. The end.
