Week Nine: May 20

Map for Week 9

20 May: Liz and Rebecca Reporting: We started the day in Santorini, and hopped on our lovely Minibus and headed off to the Thera museum. We took a quiz and went inside. There were a number of great copies of wall paintings, one of which had a lot of monkeys on it. That made me laugh. Then we went off to Akrotiri, which is “The Pompeii of Greece,” with really well preserved houses, all of which are kept under a huge roof. From Akrotiri we headed back to Thera and caught the boat to Mykonos. We rode on a superfast catamaran (which ended up being around four hours instead of the intended two and a half) which played The Lord of the Rings and Harry Potter movies, as we all frantically tried to finish the Odyssey reading. When we reached the port, most of the group sat around on some rocks, while Rebecca scrambled up the mountain looking for our hotel, and Liz wandered the streets with the huge pelicans trying to figure out boat schedules. Then we all had to scramble up the mountain to the hotel, get settled, and have another intense Odyssey quiz and discussion. After a few hours of talking about hurtful decisions, we pushed our faces up against the window and went to bed.
