Week Six: April 29

Map for Week 6

29 April: Liz and Melissa reporting: Though originally we were suppose to have a half day, it quickly changed to a starting time of 11…then to 10:30…then to 9:45…. So with a starting time of 9:45 am, most of us had to wake up by 8 to get our laundry to the kind Greek grandmother in time, praying we’d finish before she closed otherwise it would have been a long two weeks in northern Greece with only one change of clothes. We met up with Peter (a.k.a. Shultzey, Dr. Shultz, monkey-tamer) and his group at the agora for a short lecture by David Scahill. After wandering around the agora for a time, we left for the south side of the acropolis, only to quickly lose sight of Christesen and Chris in the busy streets of Monastiraki. We finally got a hold of them and met them at the temple of Olympian Zeus. We looked at the building. We walked around the building. We (as in Chris and Evan) played with a shrunken rat’s head and took many photographs (we worried about their sanity). We took a group picture in front of the building. We then proceeded to leave the building. After the temple, we headed up to the south slope of the acropolis and took in the sights of the theater of Dionysos and the Odeion of Herodes Atticus before heading over the Aeropagus and the Pnyx. After being dismissed, we ran to the kind Greek grandmother’s place and got there right before she closed (yay! No more foul smelling clothes!) and Liz ran back to the Achilles to chew out Dell. The night ended with a very long Iliad discussion. Needless to say, we were all much more relaxed with the first ISP week behind us (with the exception of Liz, poor girl, send sympathy and money to the Achilles hotel).
