Week Two: March 28
28 March: Ani and Liz Reporting: We started out our day axt 7:45am on the Areopagus. Peter Schultz was defending his dissertation today, so we had other things planned. We began by wandering down the North Slope of the Acropolis, where we saw some old stairs and cracks in the rock. After that, we, the leaders of the day, navigated to and brilliantly found the Kerameikos, a major cemetery site of ancient Athens. There, Sarah Murray fell off the wall with style, and we met Dr. Florian Ruppenstein of the German Archaeological Institute in Athens, who led us through an extensive tour of the site. We ate a quick but cheap lunch in Monastiraki and the trekked up the hill to the Acropolis Museum. After resting up, we talked about archaic sculpture and went into the museum and looked at some korai. Then we wrote a “mini-quiz” and meandered back to the hotel where everyone passed out. Overall, we would say that our day was absolutely fabulous.
