Map for Week 2
27 March: Sarah M. and Evan Reporting: March 27, 2003: While certain members of the entourage did not appreciate Evan’s wake up jig early this morning, everyone was out and on the way for our first day on the Acropolis by 7:30. We arrived at the Areopagus, where soon-to-be Dr. Schultz, gave us the proverbial “Down Low” on the Archaic incarnation of the citadel. Our appetites whetted, we finally walked up to the summit to check things out and then learned some more interesting things about the Nike bastion, the old Temple of Athena, the so-called “Bluebeard Temple,” and the Erectheion. (NB: At this point, Drs. Christesen and Schultz made a pact to co-author a brilliant explanation for this hodgepodge of architectural styles, so stay tuned!) At lunch, we stuffed our faces with meat, were ripped off by a swarthy Greek waiter and then saw some pediments in the Acropolis museum; later, we slouched around and ate junk food with impunity.
